ASHTON Kutcher is to play Steve Jobs in a new independent biopic that is due to start shooting imminently.

Entitled Jobs, the film will chronicle Jobs’ meteoric rise from Northern California hippie to co-founder of Apple.

It is being directed by Joshua Michael Stern (of Swing Vote fame from a script by Matt Whiteley.

The casting is a big move for Kutcher, an actor more commonly associated with comedy, although from an appearance point of view the star shares a lot of similarities with the young Jobs.

Principal photography is due to commence in May while Kutcher is on hiatus from his sitcom, Two And A Half Men.

The quick development also means that the independent biopic can get the jump on another movie being planned by Sony Pictures on Jobs – as Sony have already snapped up the film rights to Walter Isaacson’s authorised biography of Jobs that was published within weeks of his death in October last year (2011).
