JAMES Cameron’s Avatar is now the second highest grossing film of all-time.

Just 24 hours after overtaking Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest for third spot, the sci-fi epic has now accumulated $1.14 billion, to beat the $1.12 billion figure previously held by The Lord of the Rings: The Return of The King.

The film hit the landmark with more than a week to spare, thanks to another healthy day at the global box office on Wednesday.

Avatar now has its sights firmly set on toppling Cameron’s own record – the $1.84 billion taken globally by his Oscar-winning success, Titanic.
