MARVEL’S box office juggernaut Avengers: Infinity War has taken another massive $61.8 million in its third weekend to firmly remain on top of the US box office.

The Disney and Marvel blockbuster also enjoyed a $200 million launch in China, bringing its weekend haul to $343.1 million worldwide and a global box office total so far of $1.6 billion.

On Saturday, it became the second-fastest film to cross the $500 million mark at the US box office.

Infinity War has also passed The Avengers ($1.519 billion), Fast & Furious 7 ($1.516 billion), Avengers: Age of Ultron ($1.405 billion), Black Panther ($1.229 billion) and Star Wars: The Last Jedi ($1.332 billion) to become the fifth-highest grossing global film of all time.

Elsewhere at the US box office, the successes had a more female slant. Melissa McCarthy’s comedy Life of The Party opened in second with $18.5 million from 3,656 locations. While Gabrielle Union’s thriller Breaking In launched in third place with $16.5 million.

Lionsgate comedy Overboard, a remake of the Kurt Russell-Goldie Hawn comedy, slipped to fourth with $10 million, while indie horror hit A Quiet Place, directed by and starring John Krasinski, rounded out the top five with $6.3 million. The film has now taken $169 million in the US alone and a sequel is in the works.
