BARRY Levinson is to replace Nick Cassavetes as the director of crime saga Gotti: Three Generations.

The project, starring John Travolta as Gotti Sr, has the blessing of John Gotti Jr. It will explore the relationship between John Gotti Sr, the head of the Gambino crime family, and his son.

Levinson replaces Cassavetes, who bowed out last month because of scheduling conflicts.

Joining Travolta among the ever developing cast are John Pesci as Gotti Sr.’s Angelo Ruggiero and Lindsay Lohan as John Gotti Jr.’s wife Kim.

Levinson, who has previously directed the crime drama Bugsy featuring Warren Beatty as Bugsy Siegel, recently directed Al Pacino in HBO’s You Don’t Know Jack as well as the ecological horror tale The Bay.
