Batman and Superman to face off in new Zack Snyder movie
Story by Jack Foley
ONE of the biggest stories to emerge from San Diego Comic-Con this year is that Superman is to face off against Batman in a new movie.
The as-yet untitled movie will be a follow-up to Man of Steel and will see Henry Cavill reprising his role as Superman/Clarke Kent, with Zack Snyder returning to direct.
Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane will also reprise their roles from the Man of Steel side of things. But there is no word, just yet, on who will don Batman’s cape. Christian Bale maintains he has played the character for the final time following The Dark Knight Rises.
In a statement revealed at Comic-Con, Snyder told excited fans: “I’m so excited to begin working again with Henry Cavill in the world we created, and I can’t wait to expand the DC Universe in this next chapter.
“Let’s face it, it’s beyond mythological to have Superman and our new Batman facing off, since they are the greatest Super Heroes in the world.”
The film will be scripted by Man of Steel‘s David Goyer along with Snyder.
Man of Steel producer and Dark Knight trilogy director Christopher Nolan will executive produce (among others).
A further statement issued by DC Entertainment president Diane Nelson said: “Superman and Batman together on the big screen is a dream come true for DC fans everywhere. All of us at DC Entertainment could not be more excited for Zack’s continuing vision for the DC Universe.”
The blockbuster is set for release in 2015 and marks the first step towards a Justice League movie, which The Hollywood Reporter says is expected to hit cinemas in 2017.
