Story by Jack Foley

BEN Foster has been cast as John Gotti Jr. in Barry Levinson’s Gotti: In The Shadow of My Father.

He will line up alongside John Travolta, Al Pacino and Kelly Preston in the crime epic which is due to begin shooting on location in New York in January.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project has the blessing of Gotti Jr. and delves into his relationship with his father, John Gotti Sr., the head of the Gambino crime family.

Travolta will play Gotti Sr.

Commenting on his casting, Foster said: “Barry Levinson was the first director who took a chance on me [in Liberty Heights], and I have a career because of him. This is a film about family, fathers and sons.

“I am deeply honored for the opportunity to work with Barry and the amazing cast he is assembling to help bring the story of the Gotti family to the screen.”

Levinson added: “He is one of the few young actors who can literary transform himself from role to role, from light comedy to a deadly gunslinger in 3:10 to Yuma. I think he can bring something very memorable to the role of Gotti Jr.”

Foster’s film credits include The Mechanic, 3:10 to Yuma and The Messenger for which he has won widespread acclaim.

Levinson is no stranger to the crime drama, having directed Bugsy with Warren Beatty. He took over the project after original director Nick Cassavetes departed in May over scheduling conflicts.
