Ben Stiller to be honoured at MTV Movie Awards

Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian

Story by Jack Foley

BEN Stiller is to receive a special prize at next week’s MTV Movie Awards in recognition of his contribution to Hollywood.

The comedian, who has starred in a string of hit films including There’s Something About Mary, Starsky & Hutch and Night At The Museum, is to be presented with the MTV Generation Award, the ceremony’s top honour.

Commenting on the award, a spokesman for MTV explained: “Ben Stiller has kept fans rolling with laughter since bursting onto the scene in Reality Bites.”

It added that the accolade acknowledges an actor “who has captured the attention of the MTV audience throughout their career”.

Stiller, whose latest film Night At The Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian opened in UK cinemas last Wednesday, joins a long list of actors, including Tom Cruise and Jim Carrey, as previous recipients.

He commented: “I’m honoured to be getting the Generation Award. I was given my first show at MTV and also cancelled for the first time.”

Stiller is also in the running for a new category of award at this year’s ceremony, which recognises a particularly hilarious and gruesome movie moment.

The scene in question comes from the action movie spoof Tropic Thunder and involves the character played by Steve Coogan losing his head.

High School Musical star Zac Efron will present Stiller with the award.
