BENEDICT Cumberbatch and Jake Gyllenhaal look set to unite for new drama Rio.

The two actors are in talks for the Studiocanal financed feature, which will focus on a reporter (played by Gyllenhaal) who travels to Brazil to visit a wealthy friend (Cumberbatch), only to find himself being asked to help in faking his death.

The film is being directed by Luca Guadagnino, of A Bigger Splash fame, from a script by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight.

Gyllenhaal and Cumberbatch are both set to produce as well.

Gyllenhaal recently completed work on Bong Joon-ho’s Okja, which will be premiering at Cannes, as well as Paul Dano’s directorial debut Wildlife.

Cumberbatch is also set for The Current War, where he will play Thomas Edison opposite Nicholas Hoult’s Nikola Tesla, before reprising his Marvel alter-ego, Dr Strange, in the next Avengers movie, Infinity War.

He is also set to voice the Grinch in Illumination’s take on the Dr Seuss Christmas tale.
