BENEDICT Cumberbatch has joined the cast of Guillermo del Toro’s Crimson Peak.

The British actor lines up alongside Emma Stone and Charlie Hunnam for the gothic horror story.

Based on a script that was co-written by Del Toro, Matthew Robbins and Lucinda Coxon, the film follows a woman who discovers that her husband may not be whom he appears to be.

As yet, no details have been revealed as to who plays who but The Hollywood Reporter states that shooting is due to begin in February 2014.

Cumberbatch is currently in-demand off the back of his success as TV’s Sherlock. He will shortly be seen playing the villain in Star Trek Into Darkness and is currently filming The Fifth Estate, in which he is playing Julian Assange.

del Toro has Pacific Rim up next, which sees him working with Hunnam.
