Benedict Cumberbatch nabs key Star Trek sequel role

Sherlock

Story by Jack Foley

SHERLOCK star Benedict Cumberbatch has reportedly landed a major role in J.J. Abrams’ upcoming Star Trek sequel for Paramount.

The actor, who can shortly be seen among the ensemble of Steven Spielberg’s War Horse, is believed to be playing the main villain, although as the film’s creative team are keen to keep the story under wraps there has been no official word on who Cumberbatch will play.

He will, however, line up with all the returning original cast members, including fellow Brit Simon Pegg, for the film, which will also be shot in 3D.

In addition to winning widespread acclaim for his performance in Sherlock, Cumberbatch has also found big screen success in Tinker Tailer Soldier Spy.

He will also be lending his voice to the characters of Smaug the dragon and the Nercomancer in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: There and Back Again.
