BILL Murray is to voice Baloo the Bear in Disney’s new version of The Jungle Book.

Jon Favreau is directing the 3D blockbuster, which is baed on a script by Justin Marks, and also includes Christopher Walken (as King Louie) and Giancarlo Esposito as (Akela) among its performers.

Sir Ben Kingsley and 12 Years A Slave Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o have also signed up as, respectively, Bagheera and Raksha, while Idris Elba is Shere Khan, Scarlett Johansson is Kaa and newcomer Neel Sethi will play Mowgli.

The Jungle Book will combine live-action and animation.

In Rudyard Kipling’s source book, Baloo and the panther Bagheera teach the law of the jungle to the boy Mowgli and subsequently save him from Shere Khan the tiger.

A rival Jungle Book project, Jungle Book: Origins – which will mark a first feature film directing gig for Andy Serkis – is also on the way and due for release on October 21, 2016. As yet, no cast members for that one have been announced.
