Bond to face Mads Mikkelsen as new villain

Mads Mikkelsen has been cast as the new Bond villain

Story by Jack Foley

A DANISH actor has been unveiled as the latest Bond villain, Le Chiffre, in Casino Royale.

Mads Mikkelsen, who has previously appeared as Tristan in King Arthur and as an ex-convict in Pusher II: With Blood On My Hands, was revealed by director Martin Campbell at a press conference held at the Barrandov Studios in the Czech Republic on February 16.

He will step into the shoes once worn by Orson Welles in the 1967 film of Casino Royale.

News first broke of Mikkelsen’s casting after his father, a taxi driver, had reportedly told his customers his son had won the role of the Bond villain.

He will now face off against Daniel Craig’s 007 in the 21st film in the series.

Amazingly, even though shooting is well under way on the film, the role of Bond girl Vesper Lynd has yet to be cast despite widespread speculation that Thandie Newton had won the role.

New favourites include Eva Green, who appeared in Ridley Scott’s Kingdom of Heaven, and Olivia Wilde, from TV series The OC.

Shooting on Casino Royale is scheduled to move to the Bahamas later this week.
