Bourne producer talks dream Matt Damon-Jeremy Renner union
Story by Jack Foley
LEGENDARY film producer Frank Marshall has said the possibility of Matt Damon returning to the role of Jason Bourne remains a dream aim for the franchise.
Speaking ahead of the forthcoming release of The Bourne Legacy, which finds Jeremy Renner picking up where Damon left off, Marshall told Empire magazine that the door is very much open for a Damon return.
The latest trailer for The Bourne Legacy also makes that seem even more likely, given that events in the film appear to be taking place around the same time as those depicted in Damon’s last outing, The Bourne Ultimatum.
The new film follows a rogue agent other than Bourne – in this case Renner’s Aaron Cross – in an all-new action adventure that lifts the lid on the other agent’s employed by the shadowy Treadstone.
But commenting on the possibility of future films in the franchise and Damon’s comeback, Marshall said: “You see there are several different programs in [Legacy] with different skill sets. All possibilities are open. My dream is that in the next one we see Matt and Jeremy team up.”
