Brad Bird reveals new details for The Incredibles 2 and surprise lead character

The Incredibles

BRAD Bird has revealed some new details for his keenly-anticipated sequel, The Incredibles 2.

The follow-up to the classic 2004 film that introduced the super-family of husband and wife, Mr Incredible (Craig T. Nelson) and Elastigirl (Holly Hunter), and their children, Violet (Sarah Vowell), Dashiell (Spencer Fox) and baby Jack Jack, will take a surprise character direction, it seems.

For it will be Elastigirl, and not Mr Incredible, who will be the star of the film, seeking adventure while her husband is left home holding the baby.

Bird – who was speaking at D23, the Disney expo taking place in Anaheim, then went on to introduce some early footage, which showed Jack Jack wandering outdoors after his dad falls asleep. After getting into a confrontation with a raccoon, he multiplies in a dazzling display of his super-powers.

Elaborating a little more about what to expect, Bird then told the crowd: “It’s fundamentally a story about family.”

But there will be great special effects, thanks to advances in technology: “The technology has gotten so much better; we can get them close to what we wanted to do in the [original]. It’s like driving a better car.”

In other little titbits dropped at D23, it was revealed that Huck Milner will be voicing Dash this time around, while Samuel L. Jackson is back as Frozone, and Bird is reprising his role as Edna Mode.

Nicole Paradis Grindle and John Walker are producing Incredibles 2, which is set for release on June 15, 2018.
