Brad Pitt joins Steve McQueen's Twelve Years A Slave

Brad Pitt in The Tree of Life

Story by Jack Foley

BRAD Pitt has joined the cast of Steve McQueen and Michael Fassbender’s next film, Twelve Years A Slave.

The actor was already involved in the film as one of its producers, via his Plan B company, but it has since been confirmed that he will also definitely be taking a role.

It is not yet known which role Pitt will play but the film is based on a true story and stars Chiwetel Ejiofor as a man named Solomon Northup, a free black man living in 1850s New York who is enticed to visit Washington under the guise of a job offer.

Once there, he is kidnapped and sold into slavery under various owners.

Northup eventually won his freedom when a Canadian carpenter smuggled letters to the man’s wife and she spearheaded a court case to get him released.

McQueen and John Ridley have adapted the script from Northup’s autobiography.

Shooting is due to commence next year.
