Brad Renfro: Accidental overdose blamed for death

Brad Renfro in Bully

Story by Jack Foley

AN OVERDOSE of heroin and morphine killed American actor Brad Renfro, a Los Angeles coroner has ruled.

The 25-year-old, known for films such as Bully and The Client, was found dead at his home last month (January).

The coroner ruled out suicide, however, describing the death as accidental.

Despite having a history of drug and alcohol problems in the past, Renfro had just finished work on The Informers, an adaptation of a Bret Easton Ellis novel.

Marco Weber, the film’s producer, commenting at the time of his death said: “Brad was an exceptionally talented young actor and our time spent with him was thoroughly enjoyable.”

Renfro began his film career at the age of 12 when he starred opposite Susan Sarandon and Tommy Lee Jones in mafia drama The Client, based on the John Grisham novel.

Seldom out of work, he won acclaim for his performances in Bully and borstal revenge drama Sleepers, in which he played a younger version of a character later assumed by Brad Pitt.
