Cannes 2008: Brad and Angelina steal limelight at Kung Fu premiere
Story by Jack Foley
BRAD Pitt and Angelina Jolie stole the show at the premiere of new animated movie Kung Fu Panda in Cannes on Thursday, May 15, 2008.
Following a couple of days of publicity stunts and photo calls for the new DreamWorks’ Animation movie a number of A-listers turned up on the red carpet for the film’s premiere.
And a radiant Angelina, who proudly displayed her baby bump in a flowing green Thomas Wylde dress, revealed to reporters at a news conference that she and Brad were expecting twins.
She also said that while she “had not completely decided” where she would give birth, she was “certainly thinking” about doing so in France.
Commenting on the film itself the actress, who lends her voice to the role of Master Tigress, said that it was a real pleasure as a mother to be able to appear in a film that would appeal to her children.
Referring to Kung Fu Panda as “a real classic tale”, she added that it is a beautiful film that’s “got a lot of nice moral messages to it”.
Kung Fu Panda follows the fortunes of Po (voiced by Jack Black), a big, clumsy panda who just happens to be the world’s biggest fan of kung fu… which doesn’t exactly come in handy while working every day in his family’s noodle shop.
When he’s unexpectedly chosen to fulfill an ancient prophecy, Po’s dreams become reality and he joins the world of kung fu to study alongside his idols, the legendary Furious Five: Tigress (Jolie); Crane (David Cross); Mantis (Seth Rogen); Viper (Lucy Liu); and Monkey (Jackie Chan) – under the leadership of their guru, Master Shifu (Dustin Hoffman).
Before they know it, however, the vengeful and treacherous snow leopard Tai Lung (Ian McShane) is headed their way, and it’s up to Po to defend everyone from the oncoming threat.
The Kung Fu Panda premiere drew a number of A-list celebrities, including more of the film’s vocal talent (Dustin Hoffman, Jack Black and Lucy Liu), as well as some surprise special guests.
Another star to turn heads was Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria, who stunned many in a swan-like, silk dress.
