CATHERINE Zeta-Jones has joined the cast of action sequel RED 2 alongside Bruce Willis and Helen Mirren.

The British Oscar winner will also line up alongside John Malkovich and Mary-Louise Parker, both of whom appeared in the first film, while Byun-Hun Lee (of G.I. Joe: Retaliation fame) has also joined the cast.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lionsgate International intends to sell the film at the upcoming Cannes film market.

RED was a hit action comedy that followed a group of contract killers who were drawn back into action after they were targeted by government assassins in their retirement.

The sequel is being directed by Dean Parisot and is scheduled to be released on August 2, 2013 in the US.

Erik Feig, president of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, Production, said in a statement: “We had so much fun making RED and seeing that amazing cast assembled together – and so did consumers: over $200m worldwide and the number one home entertainment rental of last year.

“We can’t wait to bring them back together, give them some new friends, and show they still got it.”
