Channing Tatum eyes Peter Pan origins story

Dear John

Story by Jack Foley

CHANNING Tatum is reportedly trying to bring a Peter Pan origins story to the big screen.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor has united with screenwriter Billy (Shattered Glass) Ray and producer Joe Roth to take a ‘pitch package’ to the studios earlier this week.

Plot details are sketchy at best but the film carries the tentative title, Pan.

According to the report, Tatum came up with the idea with his producing partner Reid Carolin and Eric Bromberg and then took it to Ray and Roth.

It is said to be a further indication of how Hollywood is now beginning to look beyond comic books and toys to classic literature for film ideas.

Roth, himself, would appear to be at the forefront of that move, having also produced last year’s billion-dollar grossing adaptation of Alice in Wonderland.

He is also now in the casting stages of Oz, The Great and Powerful, with James Franco and Mila Kunis starring, and has Snow White & The Huntsman set up with Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron attached. Both those projects will be released by Disney and Universal respectively.

Warner Bros, meanwhile, is about to release Red Riding Hood and is looking at bringing a new version of Victor Hugo’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame, possibly with Tim Burton directing. Find out more

Hansel & Gretel is also being revived and updated with Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton playing the characters in their later years. Find out more
