CHARLIZE Theron and Helen Mirren are returning to the Fast & Furious franchise for the forthcoming ninth film in the series.

The currently-untitled ninth movie is currently shooting and leading man and series producer Vin Diesel recently took to Instagram to announce that Theron and Mirren will reprise their roles from 2017’s Fast & Furious 8, the most recent entry in the saga.

Hence, Theron will once again play cyber-terrorist Cipher, while Mirren portrays Magdalene Shaw, the mother of Jason Statham’s character Deckard Shaw. Mirren will also appear in forthcoming spin-off Hobbs & Shaw.

In addition, Diesel states that John Cena, a newcomer to the series, will “completely shine” in the new movie.

Fast & Furious 9 is due for release in cinemas on May 22, 2020. It’s directed by Justin Lin, who has made four of the previous movies, and also brings back series regulars Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson and Ludacris.

Dwayne Johnson, who plays Agent Hobbs, will not be back, having confirmed that in January.
