Chloe Sevigny and Kristen Stewart to Star in Lizzie Borden movie

Hit & Miss

Story by Jack Foley

CHLOE Sevigny and Kristen Stewart will star in a new film that chronicles the infamous axe murders of the Borden family.

The as-yet untitled movie will find Sevigny playing Borden, the woman who was infamously tried and acquitted for murdering her father and stepmother with an axe in 1892.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will explore the events that led up to that night.

Stewart, who is in early negotiations, will play the Bordens’ live-in maid, Bridget Sullivan, who witnessed the tensions that existed within the family and who may have been in the home when the murders were committed. She testified at the trial.

The crime captured world-wide headlines at the time and even led to nursery rhymes, the most famous of which included the line “Lizzie Borden took an axe, and gave her mother 40 whacks, when the job was finally done, gave her father 41.” It also spawned numerous conspiracy theories as to who really committed the crimes.

Pieter Van Hees, who helmed the 2014 film Waste Land, will direct the film.

Sevigny, who was previously attached to a Lizzie Borden project at HBO, most recently appeared in FX’s horror anthology series American Horror Story: Asylum and American Horror Story: Hotel.

Stewart has been focusing on more indie films since concluding the Twilight franchise. Her recent credits include American Ultra, Still Alice and Clouds of Sils Maria, for which she received a Cesar award (France’s equivalent for the Oscar).
