Chris Pine in talks to join Wonder Woman movie

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit

Story by Jack Foley

CHRIS Pine is in negotiations to join Gal Gadot in the upcoming superhero epic Wonder Woman.

According to sources quoted by trade publication Variety, the Star Trek actor is being lined up to play Gadot’s love interest, Steve Trevor, in the origin story. However, Warner Bros. had no comment as of yet.

In the comic books, Trevor was an intelligence officer for the United States Army during World War II whose plane crashed on Paradise Island, the isolated homeland of the Amazons.

He was subsequently nursed back to health by the Amazon princess Diana, who fell in love with him and then followed him back to the outside world, where she became Wonder Woman, as well as his co-worker, Diana Prince.

The report on Variety went on to state that Pine is now the favourite choice for the role after Clint Eastwood’s son, Scott Eastwood, passed on the project in favour of a guaranteed supporting part in Suicide Squad. He would have had to audition for the Wonder Woman role.

Pine is currently in production on the thriller Comancheria and is then set to reprise his role as Captain Kirk on Star Trek 3.

He also has completed Z for Zacharia for release in US cinemas this August and co-stars in the Disney adventure pic The Finest Hours, which is due to debut next year.

Patty Jenkins, who recently replaced Michelle MacLaren, is directing Wonder Woman from a script by Jason Fuchs. The film will be released in 2017 – but comic fans will be able to glimpse Gadot in the role prior to that when she lines up in Zack Snyder’s forthcoming Batman v Superman, which arrives next March.
