Christian Bale departs Michael Mann Ferrari biopic

Christian Bale in The Fighter

Story by Jack Foley

CHRISTIAN Bale has left Michael Mann’s forthcoming Ferrari biopic.

The Oscar-nominated actor cited health concerns for his decision, based upon the weight he would have to gain in order to play the part of the legendary car manufacturer.

The film is due to start shooting in the spring and, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Bale was concerned that he wouldn’t be able to gain the necessary amount of weight in time.

The actor is no stranger to either putting on or taking off weight for roles, as his work on films like The Machinist and The Fighter attests. He also put on weight for American Hustle.

Mann is now working on re-casting the part so that the spring-time shoot can move forward.

The script for Enzo Ferrari was written by The Italian Job scribe Troy Kennedy-Martin and is based upon the Brock Yates book, Enzo Ferrari, The Man, The Cars, The Races.

Noomi Rapace also stars as Ferrari’s wife, Laura Dominica.
