Christian Bale talks Fighter but unclear of Batman or Terminator future
Story by Jack Foley
CHRISTIAN Bale has confirmed that boxing drama The Fighter will be his next project.
But the Public Enemies star has also confessed to knowing nothing about future plans for the two big franchises he is a part of: Batman and Terminator.
Empire Online reports that filming on The Fighter is due to commence soon. The film will place Bale alongside Mark Wahlberg in the story of two boxers, Dickie Eklund and ‘Irish’ Mickey Ward.
Bale will play Eklund, whose professional career lasted for a decade between the ‘70s and ‘80s, and who went the distance with Sugar Ray Leonard in 1978. He went on to become his half brother Ward’s personal trainer, but developed a crack addiction and was jailed for kidnapping and armed robbery in 1995. He has been in and out of prison ever since.
However, commenting on the possibility of a new Batman movie, Bale said he was completely in the dark, stating: “I’m none the wiser about whether we’ll ever be revisiting Gotham or not. I really cannot tell you if there will be another Batman movie.”
As for whether there’ll be a sequel to Terminator Salvation, he added: “No conversation has been had about that at all.”
Bale was talking at a US press conference for Public Enemies, which opens in UK cinemas on July 1.
