Churchill (Brian Cox) - Trailer

Churchill

CHURCHILL follows Britain’s iconic Prime Minister Winston Churchill in the days before the infamous D-Day landings in June 1944.

As Allied forces stand on the south coast of Britain, poised to invade Nazi-occupied Europe, they await Churchill’s decision on whether the invasion will actually move ahead.

Fearful of repeating his mistakes from World War I on the beaches of Gallipoli, exhausted by years of war, plagued by depression and obsessed with fulfilling historical greatness, Churchill is also faced with constant criticism from his political opponents; General Eisenhower and Field Marshal Montgomery.

Only the unflinching support of Churchill’s brilliant, unflappable wife Clementine can halt the Prime Minister’s physical and mental collapse and help lead him to greatness.

Churchill is directed by Jonathan Teplitzky (The Railway Man, Marcella) and written by British historian and author Alex von Tunzelmann (Medici: Masters of Florence) in her feature debut.

The film offers a unique, challenging and intimate portrait of the man behind the public figure, widely regarded as the Greatest Briton of all time.

The cast of Churchill is led by Brian Cox (The Bourne Supremacy, X-Men 2, Zodiac, War & Peace, Troy) as the legendary Winston Churchill, Miranda Richardson (Harry Potter, Testament of Youth) as the Prime Minister’s beloved wife and confident Clemmie Churchill, John Slattery (Mad Men, Captain America Civil War) as General Eisenhower, Supreme Commander of the Allied D-Day operations, and rising-star Ella Purnell (Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, Tarzan) as Churchill’s secretary.

Rounding out the key cast is Richard Durden (Wolf Hall, From Paris With Love) as South African Field Marshal Jan Smuts, Julian Wadham (War Horse, The English Patient) as British military commander Field Marshal Montgomery, James Purefoy (Rome, The Following, High Rise) as King George VI, Danny Webb (Valkyrie, A Little Chaos) as Field Marshal Alan Brooke, George Anton (Marcella, The Sweeney) as Admiral Ramsay and Steve Cree (Brave) as Captain Stagg.

Churchill will be released in cinemas across the UK and Ireland on June 16, 2017.
