Clint Eastwood in talks to direct Beyonce

Invictus, UK premiere

Story by Jack Foley

CLINT Eastwood is in early talks to direct a remake of A Star Is Born with singer Beyonce Knowles.

The long-gestating project is being set up by Warner Bros and, if successful, this latest version would be the studio’s fourth attempt (following Joel Schumacher and Nick Cassavetes projects).

Will Fetters has written the current draft of the screenplay, which will continue to focus on a young artist who marries a fading star, with her career flourishing as his fades – only this time it’s a young singer who falls for an older rock star.

Hence, Beyonce is being touted as the potential female lead, although Warners has yet to find a male lead.

Eastwood is in pre-production on J. Edgar, his eagerly anticipated biopic on controversial FBI head J. Edgar Hoover.

The production is amassing its cast and so far includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Armie Hammer, Josh Lucas and Judi Dench, with shooting due to commence in the spring.
