CRASH has taken top honours at this year’s Screen Actors Guild awards in LA, winning the prestigious best ensemble cast prize ahead of Brokeback Mountain.
The prize is the SAG’s equivalent of the best film award and strengthens the film’s chances of success at the Oscars.
Golden Globe winners Philip Seymour Hoffman and Reese Witherspoon won best actor and actress for their performance in Capote and Walk The Line respectively.
While English actress Rachel Weisz took best supporting actress for The Constant Gardener, to follow up her success at the Golden Globes.
Commenting on her award for playing country singer June Carter in the Johnny Cash biopic Walk The Line, a delighted Witherspoon said: “Sometimes, I can’t just shake the feeling that I’m just a little girl from Tennessee.”
She also praised Carter for being her “biggest inspiration”.
Further awards went to Paul Giamatti, who won best supporting actor for his part in Ron Howard’s boxing drama The Cinderella Man.
While in the television categories, Felicity Huffman won best comedy actress for her role in Desperate Housewives, which also won the best ensemble prize for a comedy.
Golden Globe winner Lost repeated its success by being named best ensemble cast for a TV drama, while Kiefer Sutherland was named best actor for his role in 24.
