Creed's Tessa Thompson joins Thor: Ragnarok

Tessa Thompson

Story by Jack Foley

TESSA Thompson has landed a key role in Thor: Ragnarok.

Although exact character details have yet to be revealed, the Creed star could be the female lead, thereby replacing Natalie Portman’s Dr Jane Foster, who is not returning.

The third instalment of Marvel’s Norse myth-inspired franchise is gearing up for a June start with Taika Waititi stepping into the director’s chair.

Chris Hemsworth is also back as the Norse god of thunder, with Tom Hiddleston (Loki) and Jaimie Alexander among those that are also returning. The film will also see Mark Ruffalo reprising his Avengers role as Bruce Banner/The Hulk, while Cate Blanchett is another of the newcomers.

Ironically, Thompson is due to also shoot Annihilation, Alex Garland’s follow-up to Ex_Machina, opposite Portman this spring.

In addition to Creed, Thompson has also appeared in Dear White People and Selma.

She is also a lead in HBO’s eagerly anticipated Westworld series.
