Creed sequel being lined up for 2018

Story by Jack Foley

A SEQUEL to Rocky spin-off Creed could arrive as early as next year (2018).

Sylvester Stallone dropped a massive hint that work is advanced on the project when he posted on Instagram from the officialslystallone account.

The post was accompanied by the hashtags #Creed 2 and #mgm and accompanied a shirtless gym picture of the film’s co-star Michael B. Jordan with ‘getting stronger’ and ‘2018’ noted on the account’s official comments.

Stallone has been busy for some time penning the follow-up to Creed, with rumours abounding that it could well place Jordan’s Adonis Johnson Creed against the son of Ivan Drago, the Russian heavyweight who killed Apollo Creed in 1985 entry Rocky IV.

Stallone also teased as much on his social media missives – although there has been no official confirmation of a storyline as yet.

Creed, directed by Ryan Coogler, was a successful reboot of the Rocky franchise, which saw an ageing, cancer-stricken Balboa forced to come out of retirement to train the son of Apollo Creed.

Stallone won the Golden Globe for supporting actor for his performance, and was also Oscar nominated in the same category.

The film also scored big at the NAACP Image Awards, taking home wins in every category in which it was nominated, including Best Actor (Jordan), Best Director (Ryan Coogler), Best Supporting Actress (Phylicia Rashad) and Best Writing. Jordan was also named Entertainer of the Year.

At the box office, Creed grabbed $109.8 million in the US alone and $173.6 million globally.
