Dame Helen Mirren and Javier Bardem to receive Hollywood stars

The Debt

Story by Jack Foley

DAME Helen Mirren and Javier Bardem are to be honoured with a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame next year (2013).

The Oscar-winning actress and the new Bond villain will be among 24 new inductees who will receive the prestigious pavement plaque.

They will join two-time Oscar nominee Viola Davis, who was nominated for her role in The Help earlier this year, director Ron Howard and actor James Franco.

Usher, New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys will be represented from the world of music, while there are posthumous honours for Janis Joplin and Luther Vandross.

From the world of TV, meanwhile, will be Glee star Jane Lynch, chat show host Ellen DeGeneres and The Mentalist‘s Simon Baker, as well as Breaking Bad‘s Bryan Cranston and former Friends star Matthew Perry.

Star recipients are announced each year by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, who meet every June to select around 20 new inductees from hundreds of nominations.

Stars who accept the honour have to pay $30,000 (£19,000) in costs, fees and upkeep of the stars.
