Dame Helen Mirren to star in The Hundred-Foot Journey

The Debt

Story by Jack Foley

DAME Helen Mirren has been cast in the DreamWorks drama The Hundred-Foot Journey.

The actress will be joined by rising star Manish Dayal in the adaptation of Richard C. Morais’ best-selling book, which is being directed by Lasse Hallstrom.

The story follows an Indian family as they move to southern France and open an Indian restaurant 100 feet across the street from a Michelin-starred French restaurant.

A culinary battle ensues between the two that ultimately tests the power of family, loyalty and love.

Steve Knight has adapted the screenplay, while Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey are among the producers.

Shooting will commence in September on location in France and India with a view to the film being released in the US in August 2014. Disney will distribute the film.

Mirren was recently seen on the big screen in Hitchcock and will shortly be reprising her role as a veteran spy in Red 2. She also lends her voice to Monsters University and has been winning widespread acclaim for her performance as The Queen in The Audience in London’s West End.

Dayal is best known for playing Raj Kher in The CW series, 90210.
