Daniel Craig confirms Girl With The Dragon Tattoo lead

Daniel Craig in Flashbacks Of A Fool

Story by Jack Foley

AS THE future of the James Bond franchise continues to hang in the balance, Daniel Craig has closed a deal to star in Sony’s English-language remake of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.

The deal will also see him reprising the role in the two potential follow-ups, all of which are based on author Stieg Larsson’s best-selling trilogy.

David Fincher is already on board to direct the adaptation, while Steve Zaillian is writing.

Having established himself as a major A-list talent in light of his success as 007, Craig has been in-demand for some time… but now that Bond is officially in limbo he’s been able to take on a few more acting opportunities.

Craig is currently filming Cowboys & Aliens for Jon Favreau, which unites him with Harrison Ford, for a July 2011 release.

He will also appear in motion-capture form in Steven Spielberg’s The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn, and has completed the Universal thriller Dream House.

Ironically, Tintin is scheduled to open on December 23, 2011, just two days after Tattoo has been pencilled in – not that either film is likely to attract the same audience!

As yet, Fincher hasn’t cast the other pivotal role in the Tattoo movie – that of Lisbeth Salander, played to such memorable effect by Noomi Rapace in the Swedish language original.
