Danny Boyle announces Slumdog follow-up
Story by Jack Foley
DANNY Boyle, the Oscar-winning director of Slumdog Millionaire, has finally announced his next project.
The British filmmaker is to turn his hand to the true story of mountaineer Aron Ralston for a film entitled 127 Hours, according to Variety.
Ralston made the headlines in 2003 following his amazing fight for survival during a climb in Utah in May.
He got into difficulty when his right forearm got pinned under a boulder for nearly five days, forcing him to use a dull knife to amputate the limb and then scale a 65-foot sheer wall before he could hike out for help.
He eventually ran into a family that gave him water and food and was then airlifted to hospital by helicopter.
Boyle intends to start work on the film early next year with a view to releasing it in late 2010. Simon Beaufoy is in talks to write the script, and Christian Colson will produce, which would mark a reunion of the creative team behind Slumdog Millionaire
