Story by Jack Foley
ACCLAIMED theatre actor Jeremy Irvine will line up alongside Emily Watson and David Thewlis (pictured) in director Steven Spielberg’s film version of stage play War Horse.
A truly international cast also includes British star Benedict Cumberbatch, German actor David Kross, who co-starred in The Reader, and French-born star Niels Arestrup, who appeared in acclaimed films The Diving Bell & The Butterfly and A Prophet.
Spielberg’s film is due to be released in August 2011 and shooting is expected to commence in the UK later this summer.
War Horse tells the emotional story of a horse that becomes caught up in the carnage of World War I.
It began life as a children’s book written by Michael Morpurgo before being turned into a hugely successful stage adaptation, which was originally put on at London’s National Theatre in 2007 and is currently on at the New London Theatre in the West End. Read our review or view photos
It was also announced earlier this year that it would transfer to Broadway in November.
The film version has been adapted by Lee Hall and Richard Curtis from both the original story and stage adaptation and will mark Spielberg’s first new cinema release since Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull two years ago.
