Deadpool 2 gets summer 2018 release date

Story by Jack Foley

VIOLENT comic book sequel Deadpool 2 has been given a summer release date of June 1, 2018.

Ryan Reynolds will, as previously confirmed, once again stars as the superhero, having turned the the film series into a passion project.

The film also reunites Reynolds with original Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, with Drew Goddard assisting on the script as well. David Leitch is in the director’s chair instead of Tim Miller, who exited the project earlier this year over creative differences.

The follow-up will welcome newcomers Zazie Beetz as Domino and Josh Brolin as Cable.

Shooting is due to begin in June this year.

The release dates means that distributor Twentieth Century Fox will be handling a very busy 2018 with at least two more superhero titles.

For starters, there’s New Mutants, which is due to open on April 13, 2018, while Dark Phoenix hits cinemas on November 2.

New Mutants, directed by Josh Boone, follows a young team of superheroes, while Dark Phoenix will revisit a classic comic book storyline that saw Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) become the host for the Phoenix Force, a cosmic entity that eventually drives her to becoming a destructive force that ultimately leads to her death.

Long-time X-Men writer and producer Simon Kinberg is the favourite to direct the project, which is being labelled as a follow-up to 2016’s X-Men Apocalypse.
