Dennis Hopper battling prostate cancer
Story by Jack Foley
ACTOR Dennis Hopper has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, his manager has said.
The star of films such as Apocalypse Now and Speed is cancelling all forthcoming appearances to focus on his treatment.
According to Sam Maydew, Hopper is undergoing a “special programme” of treatment in California and is optimistic of a good outcome. He added: “We’re hoping for the best.”
Hopper, 73, was admitted to hospital in New York earlier this month, prompting speculation about his health.
It was later disclosed that the Easy Rider star required treatment for severe flu-like symptoms and dehydration.
Hopper had been expected to appear at an exhibition in Australia, entitled Dennis Hopper & The New Hollywood, which was a collection of his artwork and photography.
The Oscar-nominated actor, who is also an accomplished writer, director and artist, is also known for appearing on television in shows such as 24. Indeed, his small screen work had continued recently on a TV adaptation of the 2004 Oscar-winning film Crash.
