Derek Cianfrance to direct The Light Between Oceans
Story by Jack Foley
DEREK Cianfrance is to direct The Light Between Oceans as his follow-up to The Place Beyond The Pines.
Based on the novel by M.L. Stedman, the film will be set on an island off the coast of Western Australia after World War I, as a lighthouse keeper and his wife find a two-month-old girl and a dead body in a rowboat and decide to raise the baby as their own.
However, what initially seems like a blessing soon turns tragic.
Cianfrance has made a name for himself as a writer-director of immense talent, having also won praise for his film Blue Valentine.
And it’s this quality that attracted DreamWorks to want to hire him, with the company’s production president Holly Bario announcing the news in a statement.
“With his previous work, Derek has exhibited a deft touch when handling complex and emotional subject matters,” she said. “With Derek on board to direct, we know the project couldn’t be in more capable hands.”
As yet, there is no word on any cast.
