Despicable Me 3 and new Grinch movie set 2017 release dates
Story by Jack Foley
A THIRD Despicable Me has been given a 2017 release date, as has a new animated version of Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
Both titles were announced as part of Universal’s forthcoming animation slate along with an untitled project to be written and directed by Garth Jennings, featuring a lot of music.
Despicable Me 3 follows the hugely successful showing of the second film in the franchise, which took $935 million globally to rate as one of the best showings of all time for an animated film.
It will open in the US on June 30, 2017, almost two years after spin-off movie Minions on July 10, 2015.
How the Grinch Stole Christma, meanwhile, will follow on November 17, 2017, and will be directed by Pete Candeland from an adapted script by Michael LeSieur.
The film will arrive 17 years after Ron Howard’s version, which was critically panned.
