BRITISH filmmaker Dexter Fletcher is in talks to direct Sherlock Holmes 3 for Warner Bros.

According to Deadline, Fletcher is closing in on a deal that would see him taking over from Guy Ritchie as the helmer of the long-awaited third instalment in the Robert Downey Jr-Jude Law franchise.

Fletcher most recently directed the box office smash Rocketman, a biopic of Elton John, having previously finished Oscar winner Bohemian Rhapsody in the wake of director Bryan Singer’s firing from the project.

Rocketman has currently made over $175 million to date.

The screenplay for Sherlock Holmes 3 is being penned by Narcos co-creator Chris Brancato with Joel Silver, Susan Downey, Dan Lin and Lionel Wigram returning as producers.

The first two films together grossed over $1 billion at the global box office. Sherlock Holmes 3 is currently due to open on December 21 2021.
