Disney announce Frozen sequel

DISNEY has confirmed that a sequel to animated smash Frozen is in the works.

The company tweeted on Thursday (March 12, 2015): “Forecast: Winter weather ahead! @DisneyAnimation developing #Frozen2.”

It was accompanied by a picture of sisters Elsa and Anna, with Sven the reindeer and love interest Kristoff.

Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, who directed the original, will also return behind the camera for the second installment – although no release date has been set as yet.

However, an excited Lee also Tweeted: “At last, I can say – FROZEN 2!!!! I’m beyond excited to create alongside my Frozen family!”

Released at the end of 2013, Frozen has since become the highest-grossing animation of all time, and the fifth biggest film overall.

To date, it has raked in $1.274 billion (£857 million) worldwide and continues to be adored by children of all ages. Frozen-related merchandise was among the highest-selling items this Christmas.

The movie won two Oscars in 2014 – best animated feature and best original song for Let It Go.

Prior to the sequel, a seven-minute follow-up film called Frozen Fever, is being released in cinemas later this month, t screenings of new Disney film Cinderella.
