Disney announces animated Jack and the Beanstalk movie, Gigantic

Story by Jack Foley

WALT Disney Animation Studios is working on an adaptation of the classic fairytale Jack and the Beanstalk.

To be called Gigantic, the film will be directed by Nathan Greno (of Tangled fame) and is intended to be “the definitive version” of the tale.

Speaking at Disney’s D23 Expo at the Anaheim Convention Center in California, Greno said that the film will have “ comedy and deep emotion”.

Set in Spain during the Age of Exploration, the film will follow Jack as he discovers a world of giants hidden within clouds.

He subsequently befriends the female giant Inma, who Greno described as “11-years-old, 60 ft tall, fiery, feisty and a lot to control” and who treats Jack like a living doll.

But they will also have to tackle the baddies, known as Storm Giants, who stand at 120 feet.

Disney’s chief creative officer John Lasseter was also on hand to announce the film at D23, when he confirmed that Gigantic will be looking to release in 2018.
