THE Walt Disney Company held a very special gala screening of the new Disney·Pixar film Cars 3 in honour of some of Disney’s most valued charity partners.

Cars 3 filmmakers director Brian Fee (storyboard artist Cars, Cars 2) and producer Kevin Reher (A Bugs Life, La Luna) introduced the film to an audience filled with hundreds of excited families and employees of the charities, UK celebrities including TOWIE’s Lewis Bloor, TV Chef Aldo Zilli and JLS’ JB Gill, plus the young cast of Disney Channel’s latest smash success, The Lodge.

The event, held at Vue Westfield, Shepherd’s Bush was organised in honour of 10 of Disney’s affiliated UK-based children’s charities, as they welcomed families and friends to enjoy a unique and memorable opportunity to see the film before it speeds into UK cinemas on July 14, 2017.

Representatives from the following charities were in attendance: KIDS; KidsOut; Rays of Sunshine; MediCinema; National Autistic Society; Shepherds Bush Family Project; Variety; Active Communities Network; Action for Children.

Sara Hanson, Director of Charitable Programmes, The Walt Disney Company EMEA, said: “The gala is an incredibly uplifting beacon that represents the everyday collaborations Disney achieves with affiliate charities in the UK. We are very proud of the positive impact our storytelling, magical moments can offer children and families when they need it the most.”

While Jane Sharpe, CEO of Rays of Sunshine, commented: “We are so grateful to Disney for giving Rays of Sunshine the chance to be a part of this wonderful event. When a child has a wish granted by Rays of Sunshine, they become part of the Rays of Sunshine family.

“We continue to be the good news in their lives and provide experiences which help act as a distraction from the challenges of their illness. Attending this exclusive screening of Cars 3 was a wonderful treat for seven of our wish families which enabled them to spend precious time together and create lasting family memories.”

Tina Mayers, Manager/CEO of Shepherds Bush Families Project & Children’s Centre, said: “It is fantastic to be able to attend the Gala Screening of Cars 3 and give the families we work with an experience they would not have otherwise and will remember for a long time. The C&YP are so excited to be attending this event, we are very grateful to Disney for this opportunity.”

Kat Mason, of MediCinema, said: “It was such a special treat for our patient families to go along to the Charity Gala Screening of Cars 3, especially our families from Headley Court rehabilitation centre for injured servicemen and women.

“MediCinema is all about bringing the magic and joy of the cinema to people in need – enabling patients and their families to spend quality time together doing something ordinary at a time when that’s so difficult to do. Today, they’ve had a completely extraordinary cinema experience and family day out, and it has been wonderful! We cannot thank Disney enough for making this happen.”

The turbo-charged Cars 3 sees Owen Wilson return as the voice of legendary ‘Lightning McQueen’ with Armie Hammer joining the voice cast as new character, and McQueen’s new rival, ‘Jackson Storm’.

McQueen is blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast racers and pushed out of the sport he loves. To get back in the game, he will need the help of an eager young race technician, ‘Cruz Ramirez’, with her own plan to win, plus inspiration from the late Fabulous Hudson Hornet and a few unexpected turns. Proving that #95 isn’t through yet will test the heart of a champion on Piston Cup Racing’s biggest stage.

The film also stars F1 racing champion Lewis Hamilton who returns to the franchise following his role in Cars 2.
