Disney's Frozen crosses $1 billion milestone world-wide

Story by Jack Foley

DISNEY’S Frozen has crossed the $1 billion mark at the world-wide box office, becoming only the second animated feature in history to achieve that milestone after fellow Disney/Pixar title Toy Story 3.

The film, which was released in cinemas in December 2013, reached $388.7 million in the US and $611.5 internationally (including the UK) for a combined total of of $1 billion.

Among other achievements, the milestone means that Frozen is only the 18th film to hit $1 billion worldwide.

And Disney can lay claim to seven of those other titles, including The Avengers, Iron Man 3, two of the Pirates of the Caribbean installments, Alice in Wonderland and Toy Story 3.

Frozen, meanwhile, is also the top-grossing original animated film of all time.

Its remarkable life could get even better this weekend if, as expected, it takes the best animated feature prize at the Oscars, adding to its recent BAFTA.
