Downton Abbey's Sophie McShera in talks for Cinderella
Story by Jack Foley
DOWNTON Abbey star Sophie McShera is in talks to play a wicked stepsister in Disney’s live action version of Cinderella.
The actress is best known for playing kitchen maid-turned-assistant cook Daisy Mason on the ITV period drama and is one of several of the show’s stars now being courted for big screen success.
If successful, McShera would line up alongside Holliday Grainger as the two mean step-sisters, Drisella and Anastasia, who are constantly ridiculing Cinderella.
Kenneth Branagh is directing the film, which sees Lily James, who has also appeared on Downton, in the title role, Cate Blanchett as the wicked stepmother and Game of Thrones‘ Richard Madden as the prince.
Shooting is due to begin in the autumn in London.
Aside from Downton Abbey, McShera has also won widespread acclaim for her performance as ‘Pea’ in Jez Butterworth’s stage play Jerusalem at the Apollo Theatre in London’s West End.
