Drew Goddard to write and direct X-Men spin-off X-Force

Story by Jack Foley

DREW Goddard has been signed up by Twentieth Century Fox to write and direct X-Men spin-off, X-Force.

The film is notable for featuring both Deadpool and Cable, who will also be seen together in the Deadpool sequel.

In comic book form, X-Force was a spin-off of New Mutants, the very first X-Men spin-off, that launched in the early ’90s and was co-created by Rob Liefeld, best known as the co-creator of Deadpool.

The character Cable led the team, which was known as a more militant take on the mutant heroes. It also included the characters Shatterstar, Domino and Feral.

Cable and Domino are being introduced in Deadpool 2, which is due to open on June 1, 2018, featuring Josh Brolin as Cable. As yet, no casting has been announced for Domino.

Both Reynolds and Brolin are, however, expected to appear in X-Force, with Reynolds also listed among the films’ producers.

Goddard has past experience in the superhero arena, having created the TV version of Marvel’s Daredevil TV show.

He was also set to direct Sony’s Spider-Man spin-off Sinister Six until the project was side-lined when the studio’s plans changed.

Goddard’s other work includes writing the scripts for The Martian and The Cabin In The Woods. He is currently in pre-production on Bad Times at the El Royale, which he wrote and will direct. The crime thriller boasts Jeff Bridges and Chris Hemsworth among its ensemble.

As yet, there is no release date for X-Force.
