Elijah Wood set to make The Hobbit cameo

Elijah Wood

Story by Jack Foley

ELIJAH Wood is in talks to reprise his role as Frodo Baggins in Peter Jackson’s two-part adaptation of The Hobbit.

If successful, he would be the latest Lord of the Rings star to be joining the prequel, following Orlando Bloom and Cate Blanchett even though none of the characters they play appear in JRR Tolkien’s book.

Frodo is the central character in the Lord of the Rings but it is his older cousin, Bilbo (played by Ian Holm in the original film trilogy) who takes centre stage this time.

Martin Freeman is playing Bilbo in The Hobbit adaptation, although it is unclear at this stage whether Jackson will opt to age Freeman or bring Holm back for his later scenes, to further enhance the reunion.

The only potential stumbling block to Wood’s return could be his schedule, as the actor has also just signed on to play Ben Gunn in a new adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island alongside Eddie Izzard for Sky TV.
