Story by Jack Foley
ELIZABETH Banks is to direct the sequel to Pitch Perfect.
The actress, who also co-starred in and produced the original, is returning in the same capacity to the sequel but will also be making her directorial debut.
Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson (both pictured), who also starred in the original, also look set to return, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Commenting on the announcement of Banks as director, Universal Pictures chairman Donna Langley said in a statement: “Elizabeth originated the idea for Pitch Perfect and was instrumental in making the first film such a huge success. She brings an enormous amount of energy and experience to everything she works on and we’re thrilled that she is making her feature directorial debut on Pitch Perfect 2.”
The original Pitch Perfect followed a freshman student (Kendrick) who reluctantly joins a college a cappella group called The Bellas and helps lead it to the finals. The movie grossed more than $115 million worldwide on a $17 million budget.
Banks, who played one of the judges, is also widely known for her role as Effie Trinket in The Hunger Games franchise, which she recently reprised for Catching Fire and will do so again for the film’s final instalments.
She is also one of the voice stars of the forthcoming The Lego Movie and has previously directed several comedic shorts in the past.
