Story by Jack Foley

ELIZABETH Banks is to play the villain in a new Power Rangers movie.

Lionsgate is bringing the 1990s kids’ television show to the big screen and, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Banks has signed on to play the classic Power Ranger character Rita Repulsa, an alien witch who has designs on the planet.

A quintet of unknown actors have already been cast to play the heroes: RJ Cyler, Becky G, Ludi Lin, Naomi Scott, and Dacre Montgomery.

The Power Rangers themselves are teens who are infused with powers, who unite to stop the world from being conquered.

Dean Israelite, who directed last year’s time travel found footage movie Project Almanac, will direct.

Banks most recently directed, acted in and produced Pitch Perfect 2 for Universal and also reprised her role as Effie Trinket in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2, the final installment of the Hunger Games franchise. She is also set to direct Pitch Perfect 3.
