GAME of Thrones star Emilia Clarke has joined the cast of the forthcoming stand-alone Han Solo film, according to the official Star Wars website.

In a statement, the site announced: “StarWars.com is excited to announce that Clarke, known for her stirring portrayal of Daenerys Targaryen in HBO’s Game of Thrones, will join the upcoming untitled Han Solo Star Wars movie.

“Clarke’s role will round out a dynamic cast of characters that Han and Chewie will encounter on their adventures.”

Clarke will line up alongside Alden Ehrenreich, who is playing the young Solo (a character made iconic by Harrison Ford), and Donald Glover, who recently was cast as a young Lando Calrissian.

Creed star Tessa Thompson, Divergent film series actress Zoe Kravitz, Power Rangers‘ Naomi Scott and Emerald City‘s Adria Arjona have all been in the running for a part in the film.

It remains unclear whether Clarke has been cast as the female lead or if she is playing a different character.

The untitled Han Solo movie, which is being co-directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, is set for a 2018 release.
