EMILY Mortimer has joined the cast of Disney’s Mary Poppins sequel.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the English actress will be playing a grown-up Jane Banks, one of the children who was a ward of the umbrella-totting nanny in the 1964 original.

As previously announced, Emily Blunt will be playing Mary Poppins, with Meryl Streep portraying Poppins’ cousin.

Ben Whishaw will be playing Jane’s brother Michael, while Lin Manuel-Miranda will be a streetlamp lighter.

Rob Marshall is directing the sequel, named Mary Poppins Returns, with Disney having set a release date of December 25, 2018.

Set 25 years after the original in Depression-era London, the follow-up will see Blunt playing the titular nanny as she returns to help a now-grown up Jane and Michael Banks, along with Michael’s three children, following a tragedy in the family that leaves them numb and joyless.

The character of Mary Poppins was first introduced by author PL Travers’ in her 1934 book of the same name, which Disney adapted into the classic 1964 movie starring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke.
